2019 Korea-China-Japan Arts and Culture Education Forum
In June 2019, the Korea Arts and Culture Education Service hosted the Korea-China-Japan Arts and Culture Education Forum at the Jeju Haevichi Hotel and Resort and Phoenix Park Jeju on the topic of arts and culture education for children.
This forum was held as part of the Shanghai Action Plan signed at the ministerial meeting in 2012, outlining that the three countries of Korea, China, and Japan would rotate in hosting the forum starting in 2013. This year, the forum focused on various arts and culture education programs for youth, including current trends, case studies, and future directions.
Several forum participants, including the China Academy of Culture, Japan Agency for Cultural Affairs, Tokyo University of the Arts, and the NPO “Children Meet Artist” presented on their countries unique arts and culture environment, providing information relevant policies and various cases. All three countries showed similarities in their implementation of policies at the national level that provide ongoing aid for youth arts and culture education. As for their differences, Korea emphasizes lifelong arts and culture education, while China stresses equitable opportunities for arts and culture education using public facilities, and Japan focuses on collaborative efforts with NPOs and universities to provide arts and culture education across diverse areas.

Launch of the Joint Asian Research Project
This year, KACES has launched a project that aims to study various cases of arts and arts education throughout the Asian continent, focusing specifically on the topics of social applications of art and arts education. This research entails close studies on performances, perspectives, obstacles, interdisciplinary arts, communities, and other diverse fields of arts and arts culture in Asia.
This research project aims to discover different arts and arts culture case studies throughout the region and to interpret how they represent unique characteristics and the importance of the arts to Asia. Through this project, KACES hopes to take a closer look at arts and arts education in Asia and take a leading role in redefining and conveying their identity within this region. Case studies and other results from this project will be shared with networks in the international community during forums and other important events in the second half of the year.
